When a health enthusiast gets hit with an autoimmune disease, she gets over the stigma and gets some help!

I Finally Saw a Weight Loss Specialist and Sheesh, I Should’ve Done This Sooner!

Hey Riveters! This is a republication of a piece I wrote recently for 305 Hive Media and for my favorite guy, Dr G. I truly believe in his program and wanted to share my story since so many people have asked me about my journey. While this may not be for everyone, I think it’s important to have the discussion and to remove the stigma from getting assistance when it’s the right choice for the individual. If any of you are interested in learning more, feel free to shoot me a note or reach out to Dr. G directly for an appointment. He offers virtual consultations and is offering a 10% discount to anyone who references “305 Hive”. Be cool!

I’m not a skinny woman and that is by design. While I was an extremely wiry child and teenager, my 20s firmly planted me into the “hourglass” weight class and I’ve embraced it wholeheartedly. I’ve always been extremely active and as an avid cook I’ve maintained a healthy diet, but after two babies and progressing into my 40s, this body began to take quite a turn. I never expected to have the same figure I had when I was 23. I’m 20 years older and this body has endured and accomplished way more than that 23-year-old body ever did. However, I’m still so young and active and need my body to keep up!

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, and it left me with zero energy, mental fog, and weight gain. It took about 8 months to get my medication dose perfected and it was a miserable time for me. I felt evicted from my body and didn’t recognize the lethargic person I’d turned into. Once the medication began to return my body to me, she ached and moved slowly while playing tennis or in the gym. My knees hurt, my feet hurt, my cholesterol was through the roof, and nothing seemed to help. I was living on the Whole30 Diet (while still drinking wine because I’m not a savage) and working out for 2 hours at least four times a week and nothing changed. I was running out of ideas and needed to change my game plan.

I admit, I always thought of seeing a weight loss specialist as something cheaters do because they don’t want to do the work. I was also embarrassed to admit I wanted to lose weight and regain some of my youthful zest. We live in a day and age where body positivity is nurtured and encouraged, which is amazing! I still felt beautiful and strong just as I was, but that wasn’t exactly the point. I wanted to run with a little less jiggle, get out of bed with fewer aches, and save my Spanx for tight or light-colored clothes. I wanted to feel like me.

Here I was, busting my butt in the gym and seeing zero results. Would a little “cheat” be worth the hassle? Turns out, I wish I’d done it sooner! I went to Google to review options near me and found a doctor whose program stood out. Dr. G’s Weightloss & Wellness was the only I’d seen that did full bloodwork and an EKG before beginning a program. It was also the only practice that spoke about the importance of eating a very complete and nutritious diet without obsessing over calories. It was also a program that encourages people to take their time in their weight loss so they can truly develop a new, healthy lifestyle that they can maintain for life. This is when I made a true-life change and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

I began a program with supplements prescribed to boost my metabolism and lightly suppress my appetite. The supplements needed to be consumed twice a day between meals, so I made sure to consume nutritious and sustaining meals complete with whole grains and (gasp) carbs. I freaking love carbs! I was also encouraged to enjoy a glass of wine each night so that I felt normal and not like I was on a diet. I planned with my trainer to kick things up a notch in the gym and played as much tennis and golf as I could squeak in. It was gradual, but over the course of 7 months I dropped 21lbs and decreased my BMI by eight points! The kicker was that I even brought my cholesterol down 53 points!

There’s a French saying that I think about often: “Elle est tres bien dans sa peau.” It literally translates to “she sits well in her skin”. Have you ever thought about this? Do you feel that maybe you’ve arrived at a point in your life where you aren’t comfortable, confident or secure with yourself? At this point in my life, I can honestly say yes, I’m sitting well in my skin and feel very much at ease with myself. However, I’ve done much work to get here and asked for plenty of help along the way. Dr. G is a physician who takes the time to sit with you, listen to exactly what your challenges are, and then creates a weight loss plan that’s completely tailored to your lifestyle. He wants you to create a new balance in life so that when you eventually ween off the program, you’re able to sustain these new habits for a lifetime.

I’m so proud of the way that I look today! I go shopping now and things fit without me having to wish and pray myself into a pair of jeans. I get compliments all the time on my appearance, which is wonderful, but nowhere near as wonderful as knowing I’ve added years to my life by getting healthy. I’m able to gain muscle mass like I did 10 years ago. I’m able to climb into my son’s bunkbed without fear of us tumbling to the ground. I’m able to know when I hug my babies at night that I’m going to be here for the long haul because I’m truly doing everything I can to keep my health on check. I’ve recommended a number of friends to Dr. G and now, I’m recommending him to you. We’ve all had our programs completely tailored to our needs and lifestyles, some have used supplements while others chose to go with weight loss injections (Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, Sermorelin, etc) but our results have all been the same. We look and feel fabulous!

Don’t fall for pop-up clinics who claim to know their way to weight loss. Go straight to the man with 30 years’ experience in helping people feel like their best selves. Whether you’re looking to lose 20 or 100 pounds, Dr. G and his staff will support you in their medically supervised program and help you meet your goals. With FDA-approved weight loss medications, signature protein shakes and bars, and fat-burning injections — and everything in between — patients have plenty of effective weight loss solutions available at Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness. This is the real deal and even if you’re a bit afraid, once you sit down with Dr. G you’ll feel at ease and encouraged by his nurturing team. I always tell friends, “Dr. G is my guy!”, and now he can be yours as well.

Quick Recipes for Busy Bitches

My mom always made granola all our lives and people were obsessed with it! She called it “Momma’s Hippy Granola” and anytime I shared it with someone their either begged for the recipe or at least a second serving. As I got older, I began tailoring this recipe to include a wider variety or nuts to really give the protein punch I was looking for. This past week we hosted our first Health & Wellness event with 305 Hive Media and in our swag bags I included a little pouch of my granola as a gift from Riveting Rosy. It may seem like just a small token but it’s a little homage to my momma and I can’t think of a bigger gift to give. Enjoy!

 A Few Final Thoughts

I recently learned the new “Girl Dinner” is Caesar Salad, Truffle Fries and a Dirty Martini and I have nothing to add to this. It’s perfection.

Am I the only person who thinks JLo’s team has created this “marital tension” story so that we’ll all forget it was officially leaked that she doesn’t sing on her albums? It’s like they’ve asked Ben to take one for the team so that we hopefully forget that his lady can’t sing to save her life!

I feel confident in saying that Harrison Butker is the kind of husband who tells people he’s “babysitting” his own children when he allows his wife to go to Costco on a Saturday afternoon. That an is a turd for many reasons and the fact that his last name is “Butker” is truly proof of God’s eternal sense of humor.

Be cool. xoxo
